Cyrus Ingerson Scofield (1843–1921) was an American lawyer who became a pastor and Bible teacher. His Scofield Reference Bible, first published by Oxford University Press in 1909 and revised in 1917, set his notes alongside the King James text: short comments, chapter summaries, and cross-references, written to help ordinary readers follow the Bible’s storyline.
