Note: this is part of the Self Bible Studies series. DEAD WORKS The purpose of this study is to learn not to keep laying the foundation of repentance from dead works, but rather to get the foundation down and go on. Hebrews 6:1-2 1. The term "dead works" is only used twice in the Bible, Hebrews 6:1 and Hebrews 9:14. Since Hebrews 6:1 says "REPENTANCE from dead works" and Hebrews 9:14 says that the blood of Christ cleanses us from dead works, would you conclude that dead works are sins? What cleanses us from dead works? 2. What should be our attitude toward past dead works (sins)? Philippians 3:13-14. 3. If we sin, what can we do about it? 1 John 1:9, Psalm 32:5 4. If we confess our sins, what does God promise to do? Every time? Does He lie? 5. Often after we confess a sin, it still bothers us. Is God reminding us of it? Hebrews 8:12, Micah 7:18,19 THINK! If I confess a sin, then ask God again to forgive me for the same sin, what am I accusing God of? 6. Then what can we do when it bothers us? Nehemiah 8:10, Philippians 4:6 Note the words "with thanksgiving" in Philippians 4:6. When an old confessed sin comes back to bother you, just thank God He has already forgiven it. 7. Read Romans 8:1. THINK! If God has forgiven someone, is it wrong for us to condemn them? Even if that person is yourself? |
