MAY 2002 LETTER TO PARENTS Dear Dad and Michelle, I write you this letter with a very heavy heart. The Lord has used me here at Mississippi State University in such a way to live and minister among the Chinese students. And I have hoped as I planned for the future that I would be able to come back to Knoxville and to settle down there. However, God has put on my heart, a very deep need for me to go to China and to minister the gospel to the Chinese there, and to help to strengthen the church there. God is truly working in the hearts of the Chinese. Just this past year, we have seen about five Chinese people come to know Christ. I plan to go with a very special Chinese christian that I believe that God has raised up to preach in China. When Jesus sent out His disciples, He sent them two by two. I had long prayed for a second person to help me preach and God gave me this one, who is gifted in evangelism. If the LORD is willing, I am planning to go to China in two to three years. I am hoping that God will use the research I hope to do on fish propulsion as a springboard into a major university there. I hope to teach in Beijing. I also do not know how long I will stay; maybe 1-2 years, maybe forever...only the LORD knows. Maybe one day I will be able to come back to Knoxville to settle down. Please do not try to dissuade me from doing what God would have me to do. I only desire to walk as Jesus walked. My path is set, my conscience is clear, and my command is from the Living God. Please pray for me in doing what God would have me to do. Love always, wes -- "Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends." John 15:13
